Google to Challenge ChatGPT's Dominance

Google Announces New Bard Features in Bid to Close Gap with ChatGPT

Tech Nova

In an effort to bridge the popularity divide with ChatGPT, Google announced a significant expansion of capabilities for its generative artificial intelligence, Bard. Among the key enhancements, Bard will soon be empowered to fact-check its responses and analyze users' personal Google data, marking a pivotal step forward in its evolution.

The emergence of ChatGPT, developed by Microsoft-backed OpenAI, set off fierce competition in the tech industry to provide consumers with access to generative AI technology. ChatGPT swiftly gained traction, becoming the fastest-growing consumer application ever and presently ranking as one of the world's top 30 websites.

However, Bard has not enjoyed a similar ascent in popularity. According to data from website analytics firm Similarweb, in August, Bard received 183 million visits, accounting for only 13% of the traffic garnered by ChatGPT.

To contend with the rapidly evolving landscape of AI technology, Google has introduced Bard Extensions, an innovative feature designed to facilitate user engagement. These extensions will enable users to import their data from various other Google products seamlessly. For instance, Bard users will soon have the ability to instruct the AI to search their files in Google Drive or provide a concise summary of their Gmail inbox.

Initially, Bard will only support data retrieval from Google apps, but Google has ambitious plans to collaborate with external companies, allowing them to integrate their applications into Bard in the near future. Google's Senior Product Director, Jack Krawczyk, emphasized the company's dedication to enhancing Bard's capabilities and expanding its utility.
