WhatsApp banned Over 7 Million Bad Accounts in India

Record accounts (7.2 M) banned in India in one month   WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has announced that it has taken down more than 7 million bad accounts in India as part of its compliance with India's IT Rules 2021. In July alone, the popular instant messaging platform banned over 7.2 million accounts in the country. With over 500 million users in India, WhatsApp received a record-breaking 11,067 complaint reports in July, resulting in the actioning of the aforementioned accounts. Surprisingly, around 3.1 million accounts were proactively banned even before receiving any reports from users.   WhatsApp released its monthly compliance report, stating, "This user-safety report contains details of the user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp, as well as WhatsApp's own preventive actions to combat abuse on our platform."   The term "Accounts Actioned" refers to cases where WhatsApp took remedial action based on the reports ...
